We started harvesting on Saturday. In the pics below we have
Today was a lovely sunny day and we took the opportunity to build another raised bed.
About 3 times quicker than when building them the first time around!
After finishing the bed, we were discussing how we were going to source 2 tons of soil to fill it.
A passer-by stopped to chat and ended up offering us 2 tons of soil ! A most generous gentleman - if you see this, thanks again .
We dug our first potatoes on Saturday! Watch out for photos soon on our website. They were Roosters, Maris Piper and "Erica", and we managed to get 4 buckets out of just over one third of the larger bed. There are stll three varieties of blight resistant potatoes which should be ready for our harvest and planning meeting on Sat August 25 at 12 noon. All welcome. Bring a bag to take away some spuds and also we would ask people to take away leaves and stalks as we are not yet allowed to compost on site.
We have also finished digging the new bed. If anyone is around at 10.30 this coming Sat Aug 18 please come along to help build the new raised bed. We hope to have the timber on site at that stage.
This short film (6.5 minutes) is beautifully shot and will be shown at the Rose Festival in Clontarf (July-August 2012).
There are further details in the link above and you can also watch the movie itself.
